My work at the observatory

My interest lies in the field of photometry, infrared and optical. I am in fact instrument scientist of HAWK-I and of OMEGACAM.

In Paranal I work as support astronomer on UT2 and UT4, running UVES, FLAMES, FORS, X-SHOOTER, HAWKI, MUSE and SINFONI.

Research Interests

My research interests centre on Stellar Populations. In particular, I am interested in star clusters as probes of Galactic structure and evolution:

Current duties:

  • As of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) 2015 General Assembly (GA) in Honolulu, I have been the last President of the IAU Commission 37 organizing committee. Follow this link to get to the old Commission 37 webpage. The commission is now replaced by the new Commission H4. Interested readers can find here the Legacy Report of the old Commission 37.

  • I serve as Scientific Editor of the Astrophysical Journal

  • I am co-editor of SCYON (Star Clusters Young and Old Newsletter), linked to the WEBDA database, originally developed by Jean-Claude Mermilliod, and now maintained by Ernst Paunzen.
