Yara L. Jaffe

Personal Details

I am currently an ESO Fellow in Santiago, Chile. My time is split between research in the area of galaxy formation and evolution, and duties as support astronomer at Paranal Observatory (UT4@VLT).

Research topics

My main interest focuses on understanding of how galaxies formed and evolved, and how the environment affects this process. I have attacked these questions using multi-wavelengt observations as well as simulations. In particular, these are some of the projects that I am currently working on:

BUDHIES: An Ultra Deep HI Environmental Survey

"Jellyfish" galaxies

➥ Formation of S0 galaxies in extreme environments (in prep.)

EDisCS: An ESO Distant Cluster Survey

CHILES: Cosmos HI Large Extragalactic Survey

The effect of environment on gas in galaxies over 10 Grys of cosmic time

Other research areas:

➥ Galaxies at their formation redshifts / proto-clusters

Formation of the Milky Way

Mass outflows and fueling flows in Seyfert galaxies
