How to Get it

BUDDA has presently two tasks: GMODEL (for get model), which determines the structural parameters that best fit your galaxy image; and BMODEL (for build model), which builds model images for your galaxy, as well as for the different components separately, using the parameters determined by GMODEL. With the model images, one can build residual images (made with the original image minus/divided by the model image) to study galaxy sub-structures, but also to check the quality of the fit. If you're only interested in retrieving the structural parameters for, e.g., get the bulge effective radius and surface brightness, or the effective radius and surface brightness of an elliptical galaxy, to Fundamental Plane studies, then you may get only GMODEL. However, if you want to study galaxy components other than bulge, bar and disk, then you must get also BMODEL. (Check the "Brief description" and "How to use it" sections!). BUDDA may be used in many more applications; use your scientific imagination or see its main paper.

The code is written in Fortran 77. Only versions 2.* are available and you should prefer the latest. To get the binaries you need, just click the corresponding links below. The standard binaries were compiled under Linux with gfortran and gcc version 4.3. There are also Linux binaries compiled with g77 and older versions of gcc. Binaries for Macintosh users are also available. They were compiled under MAC OS X 10.5 using gfortran and gcc version 4.0 (binaries are also available for MAC Power Books - MAC OS X 10.4). There are also binaries for Solaris 5.8. Please contact us in case you have problems or need the binaries for another platform or operating system.
