Main astrophysical interests

My research mainly focuses on understanding star & planet formation, faint companions search and characterization (brown dwarfs & extra-solar planets and the disks where they usually form). For that, I use and explore high angular resolution and high contrast imaging, mainly in the infrared and from the ground. My research mainly focuses on understanding star & planet formation, faint companions search and characterization (brown dwarfs & extra-solar planets and the disks where they usually form). Extra-Solar planets

This is a popular and exciting field in great expansion. Hundreds of extra-solar planets have been detected with various techniques and only a few have been imaged directly.

One of today's and tomorrow's challenge is to "see" directly these planets through high contrast imaging methods and eventually capture their photons, retrieve their spectra.

Stellar Environments

Massive stars

Upcoming runs (mid 2010) with VLTI/AMBER and VLT/NACO to investigate if this extremely massive star is simple or double (lead Christophe Martayan, ESO).

A complete census of the λ −Ori star forming region

Mini spectroscopic survey to be started in december 2009 at SPM. the main scientific team is composed of  Dr. Hervé Bouy, Dr. David Barrado, and Dra. Nuria Huélamo.

I am PI of observations that were carried out in April 24-30 2008 to observe two large  spiral bared galaxies with the Mexican 2.1m telescope equiped with the Boller & Chivens echelle spectrograph. The science/analysis work is lead by Dr. Kambiz Fathi of the Stockholm Observatory.

Worked on GEMINI/T-ReCS data with Elena Jimenez-Bailon, Yair Krongold, and Irene Cruz-Gonzalez... TBW

Lasers

Laser coming out of Shane domeI participated to observations at Lick Observatory with the 3m telescope (with AO and Laser Guide Star!) with Dr. Hervé Bouy in April 2007. An article partially based on these data was just accepted in A&A:

HS 2331, cataclismic variable star with strong outburst

I participated at these simultaneous observations (with the trhee telescopes: 2.1m, 1.5m, 0.84m) at OAN San Pedro Martír.
